Patrick Sweany DAYTIME TURNED TO NIGHTTIME

Nine Mile Records

A hefty dose of country soul, that screams out with class and quality from this Nashville cool cat

“This is my grown-up record,” declares Patrick Sweany about DAYTIME TURNED TO NIGHTTIME, his seventh full-length record and latest for Austin label Nine Mile Records. His last album, CLOSE TO THE FLOOR, was inspired by the death of several family members. This new album is more about looking forward – about growing up and taking responsibility.

The 40 year old Nashville singer/guitarist continues to work with local producer and engineer Joe McMahan, who lent his talents to CLOSE TO THE FLOOR (2013) as well as THAT OLD SOUTHERN DRAG (2011).

Ron Eoff (bass) and Bryan Owings (drums) are the formidable rhythm section. Backing singers Alexis Saski and Laura Mayo also add huge value.

Longtime fans may expect more of the shout-singing style and raw blues tones of earlier Dan Auerbach-produced records.

But Mr Sweany sets out to prove that’s not all he is about.

The one thing that most people notice about Patrick is his authenticity. Like his heroes, artists like Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland, Doug Sahm, Joe Tex; Patrick somehow manages to blend all of these influences into something all his own.

In his late teens, Patrick began playing the clubs and coffeehouses around Kent, Ohio. He quickly gained a reputation for the intricate country blues style he was developing, with an equally impressive deep, smooth vocal style. Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys spent a short time in his band, playing guitar.

After six critically acclaimed records, (two produced by Auerbach) Patrick tours in 49 states and Europe, playing many premiere festivals and supporting international acts on tour. Here, Sweany wraps his trademark baritone and impeccable acoustic slide work around ten strong self-penned songs of longing, redemption and growing up. Methinks this is a career defining record. ‘Nuff said. Go listen. Simon Redley
