Lady Antebellum have returned and they are bolder than ever with ballsy country anthems and a rock n’ roll delivery that will command your attention when they headline this years C2C Festival (Dublin’s 3 Arena on March 7 and London’s 02 on March 8). Band mates Dave Haywood, Charles Kelley and Hillary Scott spoke with Maverick’s Charlotte Taylor about their brave new move to a stadium country sound and why it’s time that they mix things up again.

1 met with Charles, Dave and Hillary in a quiet restaurant before an intimate gig at the 02’s Brooklyn Bowl. Natural hairstyles The seven-time Grammy winning Nashville trio had just released their fifth studio album 747 in the UK on October 6, returning to the UK for the special intimate album launch show on October 14. Lady Antebellum were the first act to be announced as this year’s C2C headliners; their gig that night following the official launch of C2C 2015. The rest of the line-up were announced by Bob Harris, the UK country scene’s legendary flag-bearer who also writes his first column of the year for Maverick, celebrating the genre’s new direction and artists. The whole day had a palpable buzz. Where will country go next year and what will C2C its flagship UK event bring?

Lady Antebellum are already established on the scene and on both sides of the Alantic with three of their four albums reaching Platinum, seven Grammys and a whole host of CMA’s including New Artist of the Year 2008, Vocal Group of the Year 2009 and Single of the Year 2010 (making them the first band in CMA Award history to receive the honour for two consecutive years). The trio has also established a well-earned reputation as dedicated and reliable artists who deliver beautiful midtempo love ballads, epitomised by the stunning Need You Now, which won the 2011 Grammy awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. As a magazine, we’ve come a long way since they adorned Maverick’s first cover under new ownership three years ago and the band have seen similar strides, beginning with their new stadium tour in America that year to now headlining some of the biggest venues across the world.

This year, Natural hairstyles Lady Antebellum are game-changers again: Owning their traditional country storytelling and celebrating their genre’s evolution too. Their approachable attitude made this a warm and friendly interview as I spoke to Charles, Dave and Hillary in between a busy day of promotions and the soundcheck, all smiles before the show later, a relaxed but glamorous Hillary in hair and make-up. There was a buzz and a youthfulness to their words, all three eager to explain why now was the time to rejuvenate their music.
