In ‘Meet the supersize beauty queens’ (March issue), it was good to see women being judged with a different perspective – in this case how much they resembled a graceful elephant. To see these larger ladies self-assured and happy reminds me that confidence is the most attractive attribute a woman can have. I’m size 10 but still feel pressured to meet a beauty ‘ideal’, and I’m aware that I’m often judged first on how I look. I wish we had a broader definition of beauty here in the UK: one that accepts women of all shapes and sizes. But I doubt we’ll ever be rewarded for resembling an elephant in this country, since the Western idea of beauty is to look as if you eat like a bird. Kerrie Blake, Essex.
