VENETIAN MINDS Mario Testino’s exquisite tribute to Venice, “That’s Amore” [July], reminded me of one of my all-time favorite VOGUE layouts from many years back. It featured Lauren Hutton in several gorgeous locations in the city, including the renowned Gritti Palace Hotel. In fact, I was so inspired by those photographs of Hutton that when my family and I visited Venice years later, we stayed at the Gritti Palace, and it was just as beautiful as I remembered it from VOGUE. I would love to again see a photograph or two from that magnificent Hutton feature, for it was truly breathtaking. Many thanks to Testino for evoking pleasant memories with his equally lovely photographs. I just wanted to take the time to congratulate you on your July issue. I have yet to read a copy of VOGUE that disappoints me, but the variety of stimulating articles, such as Elisabeth Franck-Dumas’s story about Francois Mitterrand’s illegitimate daughter [“The President’s Daughter,” Up Front], and Mario Testino’s photographs of Natalia Vodianova in this season’s most elegant pieces really had me glued to the magazine. Although I’m only seventeen years old, I’ve been a devoted subscriber for many years. I love VOGUE for its articles and fashion forecasts, which have given me a knowledge of couture and fashion history that I’m sure could rival that of the editors of most teen magazines. Thank you for your spectacular July issue and every previous one, which have all inspired me to pursue a career in fashion. (Perhaps one day I will be working for you!) Hope Smith Falls Village, CT
