Grosvenor Square has indeed become fairly formidably official in character. But this, the western flank of Mayfair, has much still of the residential about it; in Park Street, Green Street, South Audley Street, a lot of living goes on behind the whitest of white flimsy curtains and gkay black railings. If you leave the Square at the south west corner down South Audley Street you come to the Grosvenor Chapel, rather American Colonial in feeling with a neat bluish spire (built ); here lie buried a miscellany of exalted characters from Lady Mary Wort ley Montagu to John Wilkes (The remains of John Wilkes, a Friend to Liberty ); during the war the church was adopted by the United States Armed Forces. Behind it is a rather unexpected garden, deep in trees and towering brick trails, with at the far end, the neo Gothic of the very smart Jesuiu Mayfair establishment, the Church of the lavnaculate Conception.
