DRYDEN MITCHELL (VOCALS):
“I don’t know if that was an intentional thing; the offer came to us and we just grabbed it! I think it’s going to be a great start to the year, for my own psyche if nothing else. We were just over in the UK with PO.D. and Hoobastank, and the fans there have this cool sense of loyalty. People don’t like you just for a summer and then move onto something else – we really appreciate that.”
YOUR LATEST RECORD IS CALLED ALWAYS AND FOREVER – FOR YOU, WHAT WOULD BE THE WORST THING YOU WOULD HAVE TO DO ALWAYS AND FOREVER?
“I hate getting out of bed! That sounds terrible
I love my life, but I love just lying in bed all sleepy, and the act of getting up is just so bleugh (laughs)! I also hate cooking only for myself – I like to cook for others, so cooking meals for one forever would suck, too. I have a two-year-old daughter, so when she enjoys something that I make it’s just the greatest feeling for me.”
YOU’RE PLAYING ANTHOLOGY IN ITS ENTIRETY ON THIS TOUR – HOW DOES IT
FEEL CELEBRATING ITS 15TH ANNIVERSARY IN 2016?
“Well, hitting 15 at least makes me feel younger than if it was turning 20 (laughs)! It’s cool, though, I have all of these wonderful memories tied into that record. As a band, we’ve gone through some really bad times and some really good times, but it’s always a fun record to listen to, not that I do so that often. It feels great getting back to it, and
getting the songs sounding great, rather than like a five-year-old trying to ride a bike while warbling!”
WHAT ELSE IS COMING UP FOR ALIEN ANT FARM IN 2016?
“I want to do another album really soon. I’m not a huge fan of [2015 album] Always And Forever. It took forever to put out, and there were just so
many people involved in it and it didn’t turn out to be an Ant Farm record. There are some really cool songs on it here and there, but I really want to do it right. It bums me out to think I don’t have the adoration for the record that I should, but it’s okay, I’m still alive, and we can throw another dart at the board and try again”
FINALLY, THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION: HAS A FAN EVER GIVEN YOU AN ANT FARM?
“Yeah, once, but they gave me this weird thing with gel in it. It wasn’t what I think of as an ant farm, with all the sand and everything, but it was a nice thought. I’d like one of those old-school ones – remember in Dumb And Dumber when he had the worm farm called I Got Worms? I’m down for going with I Got Ants, and starting a whole new craze.”
